Buying designer
clothes online has become, if not standard practice, at least well
known. But while shopping for fashion on the internet doesn't offer
great savings, online designer-furniture prices beat the retail
alternative hands-down. Take the cult lighting designer Ingo Maurer's
wonderful Wo-tum-bu
lights. In the shops you'd have to pay about £638 (for the
smaller size, £739 for the larger) but you can buy them through
www.europebynet.com for £506 (and £586).
Quite apart from the price differentials, buying online gives customers
access to a much larger choice of furniture than almost any store
can offer. Almost all the iconic modern pieces can be ordered, and
if it isn't listed on the sight, you can place an order by e-mail
or telephone (020-77343100)

Years ago when
I went to Europe on my honeymoon, currency exchange rates were my friend.
Prices were so cheap that my husband and I calculated, as we counted
our cash on the plane home from Rome, that the two-week trip actually
cost $4 less than we would have spent if we’d never left Brooklyn.
The world has changed. After months of cringing in fear next to the
euro, the dollar has made gains, but they are still too modest to persuade
me that it’s a good time to travel. Luckily I can still shop there.
Earlier this month I took a virtual journey on the Internet to find
European online stores with merchandise, including some great deals,
that allowed me to gawk like a tourist.
