Faber Mobili, based in Vicenza (Italy) is among the finest makers of traditional style reproduction furniture. All pieces are hand crafted employing techniques and materials that were used on the original pieces in centuries gone by.
Some of the craftsmen come from the Bussandri school of furniture which dates back to the early part of the 18th Century. This school excels in a unique method of finishing furniture using rare earths, water and beeswax. Such a technique allows the woods to maintain their open pores enabling them to breathe and thus preventing any damage.
Also in line with tradition pieces are assembled using joints to allow the wood to move according to environmental conditions – no glue is involved. Some Faber furniture even incorporates original wood panels recovered from houses in northern Italy in the late 1700s and early 1800s.
Careful research ensures that the pieces are authentic in design - some are faithful reproductions of 17th Century pieces held in museums including the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam.
